TOP 300 MOVIES OF ALL TIME: #297-WHERE EAGLES DARE (1968)

Directed by Brian Hutton and written by Alistair Maclean, from his novel of the same name we find a great if comic book like war movie. Richard Burton and Clint Eastwood star as one Britain and one American leading a select group to rescue an American general being held at at a castle in Bavaria.

The movie is a bit too clever by half, but it doesn't matter. I'd call this a roller coaster ride, but the climactic scene is a fight atop a ski lift over the Bavarian Alps. Mary Ure, an underrated actress in her own right gives able support.

Of course, it shouldn't surprise anyone to know that Burton and Eastwood singlehandedly defeat the NAZIS crack fighting unit. It's so much fun for the watching. Beautifully directed, great action and a perfect movie if you've got a lazy day and need to veg out a bit.
