My 100 Favorite Movies

1.) Becket (1964) This is an unusual choice by many standards. It star Richard Burton as the title character, Thomas Becket, a trusted friend and advisor of young King Henry II of England. Peter O'Toole enthusiastically plays the young king.It deals with friendhip, loyalty and the conflict when individual principles come between them.Beautifully realized, with John Gielguld in support as the King of France. Anyone with a political mind will greatly appreciate this wonderful Medieval period piece.
2.) The Quiet Man (1952) This John Ford/John Wayne/Maureen O'Hara film classic just gets better with age. It is a warm, loving tribute to Ireland, filled with a memorable supporting cast. Of course there's Barry Fitzgerald,Ward Bond,Mildred Natwick and of course Victor Maclaglen in that memorable fight at the end.
3.) The Godfather (1972) If I have to tell you why this is on the list, then you know nothing about movies. Francis Ford Coppolla's masterpiece with Marlon Brando,Al Pacino, James Caan,John Cazale, Robert Duvall,Diane Keaton & Talia Shire.Brilliantly realizes Mario Puzo's novel.

5.) The Adventures of Robin Hood (1939) This one also gets so much better with age.No one has ever matched Errol Flynn as Robin Hood. A technicolor masterpiece, brought vividly to life by Korngold's breathtaking musical score. Supported brilliantly by Olivia De Havilland,Claude Rains,Alan Hale,Basil Rathbone and many more.
6.) How Green Was My Valley (1941) This John Ford classic about Welsh coal miner's and their family. This one is all about family and easily relates to all whether you've been Wales or ever been in a coal mine. A timeless tale of family and how its relationships alter and change and grow. It introduced Roddy McDowell, but is best remembered for Donald Crisp's performance as the father of the household. It also includes Maureen O'Hara,Walter Pidgeon,Sara Allgood and many more. Kevin A. Ward,
I'm old enough to be your father, but I know I'm not. My first son was born in 1966. I must say that most of your 100 favorites would be films my son would enjoy, but many are beyond my taste. However, you have enough range to include two of the great screwballs ("Hail the Conquering Hero" and "To Be or Not To Be") so you're more than OK in my book. All the best to you and your blog. And I hope in your quest that you get to see more of the great films from those days before either of us were born.
